My Story
I believe that I have found the most wonderful work in the world being able to provide midwifery care. As a midwife, it is my privilege to use my head, my hands and my heart in order to serve you and your family through the transformational life event that is pregnancy and birth! This work is deeply humbling and I am constantly learning.
The oldest of seven daughters, I remember seeing my mother go through routine hospital based-care. It especially stood out to me during her last pregnancy when she wasn’t afforded the respect and deference she should have been able to expect for her lived experience and expertise. I knew there must be a better way.
There are several different paths to midwifery, and I carefully considered them all. Ultimately, my passion was to serve women in community birth outside of the hospital environment, and the CPM pathway was the clear choice. I could not be more thankful for the midwives that trained me on the path to becoming a Certified Professional Midwife, licensed in Maine and now Virginia. In January 2022 I began my work as a midwife in a group practice following a 6 year apprenticeship and degree program. In the summer of 2023, I was invited to join an amazing local midwifery practice and my family and I moved to Scottsville, Virginia. Through a series of my own kairos moments, I came to recognize the call in my heart to find and forge my own unique path as a midwife. After a year of solo practice in Virginia, I am so delighted to return home to Maine where I hope to offer loving, individualized care to those I am honored to walk with.
my APPROACH
If you think about the time and mental energy we put into shopping around for a car, a house, or a wedding dress, it’s very interesting that the norm isn’t to shop around for the right provider and team to guide you through one of the biggest life events anyone can experience-having a baby.
Having given birth at home four times myself, I can't emphasize enough the importance of finding a provider who can support you where you are at. For this reason,I just love it when potential clients come with their list of questions and even concerns. This is a big deal! YOU and your baby are a big deal; the honor of the trust families place in we midwives is not lost on me!
Appointments with me are leisurely; we are really taking the time to get to know each other. I believe that a foundational piece of your autonomy and sense of ownership of your birth process is deeply knowing the person who will be there to support you. I am here to educate you on all of your options, empower you with the information, and then to support you in making the decisions that you have peace with!
